Hopefully the video contained in this blog will be the start of a whole new little series we get going here at ESPN Skateboarding. Just in case that does happen, let me give you a little background on how the idea came about: I was in Orange County and I caught the flu. It was terrible. The weekend was averaging 96 degrees and I think I was having a mild heat stroke to boot. The reason I am telling you this is because when I am sick and when I am sunburned I have crazy dreams. I am talking dreams that no normal person should ever have. But somewhere in the midst of that insanity I had a dream about how much changes in life as you get older, specifically in skateboarding. Think about it, who did you worship when you were 13? What shoe company did you wear religiously? What was your meet-up spot for the crew?
Now think about how much that has changed, even if age 13 was only a year or two ago. So I took my semiconscious half-baked idea to Walker Ryan and asked him to tell me about all the things he was into when he started skating and how that compares with what he's doing now. Walker graciously obliged and even went as far as to give me a copy of the very first video he was ever in, "Dos Videos" made by veteran pro Ron Allen. I don't recommend getting the flu and heat stroke to come up with a single pun for the name of an article, But hey, I might just switch my stance on that in a few more years.
