Toy Machine's latest pro, Matt Bennett has been stacking clips for the "Brain Wash" video pretty much since he shared a part with Josh Harmony in the Fallen video, "Ride the Sky," nearly three years ago. Bennett's part in "Brain Wash" seems to be the talk of the vid with teammates including Leo Romero talking up Bennett and his casual killer style. We checked in with Bennett on the eve of the video's premiere to see how his part turned out and what he's got in store for the future.
How have things changed since turning pro?
Nothing really, have to get more ads, little bit more work. I have to check my email now. That's about it.
Did turning pro change your mindset about getting prepared to become a homeless person?
Nah, that's just extending life as a normal civilian.
If the pro thing doesn't work out will you move out and live out of your van?
Oh yeah for sure. That's the back up right there.
Do you know anyone living out of their car that can give you tips?
Nah, nah.
What's the best thing about possibly living mobile?
Wake up anywhere you want to be and every day is different. It could be rad. You never know.
Give me your top three bands you're listening to lately.
Bauhaus. Man, my record player died; I need a new needle. I haven't been listening to anything lately, really.
I hear your lady is in a band, why didn't you rank her band up there?
Ah, because her band is the name of a dude.
What's their band named?
The name is Korey Dane.
Ben Karpinski Matt backside 180s the hard way over a sizable rail.Do you go to all of her shows?
Whenever I'm in town, yeah for sure.
Does her band ever borrow your van?
Nah.
Is it off limits?
Nah, the situation hasn't arisen yet. I don't know. I don't think they need it but I'd be down to loan it to my lady.
Would you ever consider taking your van on the next Toy Machine tour?
Yeah I'd be down, for sure. Would you guys want to rent it off me for a month?
What's the going rate?
Trying to get $3,500.
Damn, that a lot for a one week rental.
Nah, just pay for gas and it's going on a trip. But I don't know how far the van will make it. But whatever, I'm down. $3,500 is the selling price.
It was at $4000 last month.
I know. I'm just trying to move it now.
Everything must go?
Yeah, yeah.
Does that dirty little cat still live in there?
He's clean. He's cleaning himself right now, fool.
What's the cat's name again?
Bodhi.
Who came up with that?
Shin, my roommate named him; it's his cat.

I hear you are working on a Dekline shoe?
Yeah it's just a color-way. It's gonna be tight.
When will that hit the streets?
2011 for sure. The shoe is already made. They're just making tweaks and getting that color-way just right.
If you make some Osiris D3 money [The Dave Mayhew Osiris D3 model remains one of the best sellngi skate shoes of all time] off of your shoe would you buy a new van?
Yeah! Ha! With D3 money I could get a Sprinter. That's what I'm looking for.
Why the Sprinter?
Cause you can stand up in it pretty good, fool!
What about a giant RV? I'm talking D3 money.
Hell yeah I'd get a giant RV. That would be amazing. And I would get a house, too.
How did you end up inventing a trick [A backside 180 into a switch backside Smtih is referred to as the Bennett Grind]?
I got lucky, man.
Who named it the Bennett Grind?
Probably Thrasher magazine. They were the first ones to put it to print.
Who does the Bennet Grind the best besides yourself?
Chris Cole but he's got everything pretty good.
Yeah, but he aint got no signature trick.
Ha! I guess your right.
What are you going to work on after the "Brain Wash" video?
Probably some interviews from the mags and trying to get over to The Berrics. I'll just see what happens.
Who's part will be the biggest surprise in "Brain Wash?"
Some of the ams: Daniel Lutheran, Jordan Taylor and Collin Provost. But Collin will not be that much of a surprise because everyone knows how good he is.
Last words?
Don't blow it!
