This is Josh, up on top of the vert ramp. For real, I'm up there right now, writing this and Women's Vert finals just wrapped. "Girls Just Want to Have Fun" played in the background, which is a bit worrisome (as if it weren't hard enough for these girls to gain legitimacy on their own, in lulling vert, without patronizing music in the background).
The girls didn't seem to pay any attention to the music, though. Maybe they liked it. Maybe they didn't. Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins was too busy wearing wild clothing, new girl Gabby Ponce was backside airing, and Karen was being foreignut ripping.
As it turns out, Karen was the winner overall. I asked her if it makes her feel good to be better than many male skaters out there. She responded, "I don't think it makes me feel good, but it makes them feel bad."
