No longer a Shorty

One of the best things about the Tampa Pro is the random cross-section of skaters it brings out: faces you haven't seen for a while; others who've progressed 10-fold since the last time they popped up on the skate industry radar. This year, the Turf skateboards team, including San Franciscans Mike York and Lavar McBride, made the trip. Also on the Turf squad is Sam Baptista. Baptista was once Little Sammy of Shorty's Skateboards-fame, but he's grown up quite a bit since then. Baptista's honed skills were on display in the comp, and a slew of switch tricks including the switch nosegrind pictured here, earned him a trip to the semi-finals. (Tadashi)
