With a cold snap that rolled through Bear Mountain last week, the resort was able to fire up the snow guns and open Chair 5, which services the Central Park run. A dozen or so features, mostly butter boxes and rails, have been installed, and the 1-2 foot base of packed powder has made for an nice early season warm up. The mountain hopes to stay open through next weekend, but opening status is based on business volume. So get on up there while the going is good.
