It's almost the middle of May and Mt. Bachelor, Ore. is still getting snow. Oh, this endless winter. Luckily it's also been sunny for a few days, and despite a few afternoon flurries it's been pretty much prime Superpark conditions. This year marks the 15th gathering of the tribe of pro riders at Snowboarder Magazine's signature uber-park session. After four days of riding, most in attendance are saying it's one of the best Superparks yet.

"I've heard a bunch of riders saying it's definitely the most fun one," said Austin Smith, a Bachelor local with a bit of pride. "You really can't beat Bachelor in the spring."
With all the storms the Northwest got last season, Bachelor is stacked with snow. What's more, these last couple days have been some of the first spring days of the year, so everyone is making the most of the conditions.
For those who aren't privy: Superpark is an annual event hosted by Snowboarder Magazine that brings together snowboarding's best park builders, destroyers and documenters. The best terrain park staffs from around the country are invited. They build a bunch of mammoth-sized features, the boarders come in to do work, the dark men do their best to record all the action and everyone gets to see where the level of park riding is at as of May 2011.
This year there are park crews from Copper Mountain, Boreal, Killington, High Cascade Snowboard Camp, Seven Springs and Bachelor, all headed up by Hames Ellerbe. It's incredible to see how these guys have outdone themselves this year. The whole setup on Bachelor's Northwest Territory is tucked away in the trees, and the run down to the features might be one of the best in the Northwest. There really are too many wind lips, fly-outs, quarterpipes, snake runs, tree bonks, cat curbs, transfers and tranny finders to count.
"It's more like Super-natural park," Snowboarder Magazine filmer Gary Tyler McLeod said. "It's been awesome."
But what about the progressive shredding, the blasting and balls-out riding that Superpark's known for? We all want to see the insane, inspirational and unthinkable, right? Well, that's happening too.
With a veritable army of photogs and filmers on hand, it could also be the best-documented Superpark yet. Wish you were there? You should.
