Since winning Halfpipe Gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics Torah Bright has been on a whirlwind tour. In the small gaps of time between the media obligations that come from being a Gold medalist, she's gotten married, rested, and gotten in some backcountry adventures in an attempt to add landing tricks in powder to her already impressive lineup of skills.
You haven't seen her in a halfpipe competition lately, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been on her board. "Whether you're riding powder or jumps or pipe it all rolls into each other and makes you a stronger snowboarder," says Bright.
Bright arrived in New Zealand in late September, with just two weeks left in the Southern Hemisphere winter, after a brief visit back to her Australian home resort of Perisher Blue. She spent ten days enjoying a perfect weather, riding a perfect 22-foot halfpipe cut with a global cutter, as even seen sessioning a triple jump line with a bonus hip. Her style and height out of the pipe was high, along with her obvious stoke to be back in a halfpipe after being out of it for a bit.
What's next for Bright? "Traveling, getting selectively back on the contest scene," she says. "I'll head to Colorado until Christmas, then ... somewhere. [laughs] There is a plan. I just don't know it yet."
