Granite Ski Resort
This season, Wisconsin's Granite Peak Resort is restricting snowboarders from certain areas of their mountain.
Remember when you had to get a special snowboard certification to shred at your local hill? Probably not, because that was a long, long time ago. For most kids these days, it's an all fair, all equal rights world of shred -- plus, most resorts have a terrain park to boot.
So why is Granite Peak Resort in Wisconsin trying to take things back to the Stone Age? This season, the resort announced it will ban snowboarders from three trails.

Looking to gear up? Check out what companies are going green.
The crisp cold of fall is here, and you know what that means: it's time to start shopping for a fresh kit.
Finding the right fit, the right flex and the right look is all part of shopping for new gear -- but this season, with climate change legislation finally a legit possibility, and the harsh realties of global warming more present than ever, it's important to consider more than matching colorways. With nothing less than a continued winter season at stake, we've assembled a Green Guide, breaking down what goes into the "eco," "enviro," and "green" products hitting the shelves for the 2009-2010 season.

Flipside IV, Episode 1
Go behind the scenes with Absinthe Films' "Neverland"
November 6, 2009, 10:58 AM
By: Tracy Anderson
For every shot that made the final cut into this year's Absinthe film, "Neverland," there's, well, a story behind it. Flipside is the show that goes behind the scenes, and gives you access to all that goes down over the course of the film season, but that you don't see in the movie. Like in episode 1, for example, Phil Damianakes and Bode Merrill scope for spots on their sleds, Cale Zima bounces to the beat, Romain De Marchi farts in Italy, Wolfgang Nyvelt wants a bigger hotel room, Nate Bozung pulls his first front board in a year, Gigi Ruf yodels, Sylvain Bourboussons does a giant mid-air jig, Justin Bennee gets angry. It's b-roll at its best. Peep it.
Shaun White: Top Dog Unleashes New Tricks
Plus a string of talk show appearances, where he tries to explains it all

Shaun White appeared on Late Night with Conan O'Brien as part of the "100 Days to Vancouver" Countdown.
A few weeks back, we gave you a closer
look into Shaun White's no-longer-secret backcountry halfpipe, Project X. Now up on Red Bull's Shaun Site is a more detailed look at some of the next-level tricks Mr. White was perfecting high above society's watchful eyes in Silverton, Colorado last season.
Go watch them in all their HD glory
here.
Whether you're feeling the technical switch back 9 with some subtler corkery, the front double cork 10, the entirely counter-intuitive double back rodeo, or the Cab double cork 10, don't say we didn't warn you. We predict a spree of sketchy, homemade foam pits cropping up around the US as kids try to catch up to Torino's Gold Medalist. We also predict that the back-to-back, good ol' 1080s that were a recipe for gold a mere four years ago won't even get you to the finals anymore. Damn.
It seems Shaun's all over the place once again as the 100 day countdown to the Vancouver 2010 Olympics fast approaches. This week we've seen a battle of redheaded wits on Conan, some misplaced Danny Kass stock photos on The Today Show, a quick stop by ESPN First Take, and a frank discussion of both Tony Hawk's Twitter habit and Shaun's own Halloween costume on Jimmy Fallon (who apparently has had his own show for years -- who knew?).
Parkumentary, Part 2
The formative years at Bear Mountain
November 4, 2009, 4:02 PM
By: Tracy Anderson
Check it: the second installment of Bear Mountain's film, "Parkumentary." This segment takes a look back at the formative years of the resort, when riders like Dave Downing, Bryan Iguchi, Jeff Brushie, and Mike Parillo were first learning about the place -- when Outlaw park was nothing more than "a couple berms and a couple jumps." Pretty crazy to see just how far things have come...
Part 3 drops next week. Watch Part 1 here.
Snow: Good for Cooling, Communists and Creativity
Snow being used for air conditioning, and cloud seeding used to call on the storm, or keep it at bay

Snowpower.se
The process of snow being used to cool buildings.
Snowboarders are no strangers to collecting snow and re-purposing it for their needs: jumps, drop-ins, landing piles for urban jibs -- even halfpipes and parks are all examples of what you can get snow to do if you're creative.
Now, urban engineers in Canada, Sweden, and Japan are catching on to that lateral thinking, collecting snow in gigantic piles to cool buildings off in the summer.

King Snow Issue 1
Debut issue drops November 9th
November 2, 2009, 6:58 PM
By: Tracy Anderson

King Snow/Oli Gagnon
For the debut issue of King Snow, Ben Bilocq landed two photos on one cover. Does that mean double photo incentive?
Since the birth of skate magazine King Sh*t, now two issues deep, it feels like we've been waiting around forever to get a peek at their sister mag, King Snow. Well, the wait is almost over. Here's a look at the cover of Canada's newest voice concerning all things shred, which will hit shops November 9th (sadly, not U.S. shops).
If you've seen King Sh*t, then you know to expect a tone reminiscent of Big Brother and the much loved 90s snow mag, Blunt. As publisher Ryan Stutt writes about their first issue, "I'm expecting a few dozen angry phone calls from parents. But hey, that's the price of awesome. If you're not making moms sad, you're not making a very good magazine."
To see what they have lined up in Issue 1, head over to the King Snow website where they've put together a little preview.
Oh, and I'll just go ahead and end this post with a gratuitous plug: I actually interviewed Jed Anderson for this issue, and it's pretty awesome. Whoa, gratuitous and claiming it. Hey now!

2009 Backyard Bang, Recap
Trick or treating, shred style, in downtown Portland at the third annual Backyard Bang
November 2, 2009, 2:24 PM
By: Jennifer Sherowski

Bonfire
Oregon's Jonah Owen took top honors at this year's Backyard Bang.
Salomon/Bonfire threw their annual Backyard Bang this past Saturday, October 31yes, Halloween afternoon, and it was every bit the quintessential "urban rail jam."
I'll admit that there's something odd about snowboarding in the city, like scuba diving in a pool, but with Timberline and Mt. Hood Meadows still ironing out opening dates, the only snowboarding going down in the entire Willamette Valley this weekend was on the corner of Davis and 11th in downtown Portland, two blocks north of Burnside Street and 57 miles Northwest of Mt. Hood.
