Burton invited me to their show room in Soho a couple weeks back, where I got the chance to meet up with Chris Doyle, a man you might call the wizard behind the R&D curtain. He's been developing products at Burton as long as anyone, and it's always impressive to listen to this guy drop some knowledge.
Here he runs through a few of the boards that he's excited about for the 2010 season. The Method replaces the Vapor this year as what Burton claims to be the lightest board on the market--almost a full pound below what the Vapor weighs. It also has a softer flex and is more forgiving, whereas the Vapor is designed for a very powerful rider. Which is why Kevin Pearce rides the Vapor. Doyle also gives us an introduction to the new V-Rocker technology that Burton has built into several on their boards--including the Custom and the more affordable Blunt. He shows us one of the Twin boards, which has a graphic that changes color according to temperature. And we check out the Love board, which makes its return in a much less scandalous way, but new is its sister board, the Hate. Then we get a glimpse at the Ferrari collab from the T6 line, ridden by big mountain, big transition guys like Nico Mueller and Terje Haakonsen. Far from the entire collection, but cool to see some of the highlights with a guy who knows these boards better than his own family.
