Deadliest Catch star collaborates with DVS

The partnership stemmed from Tim Dowling, a mutual acquaintance shared by Anderson and Tim Gavin, one of the founders of DVS. "Last year Tim calls me and says, 'Hey, I got the opportunity to be a filmer on the Deadliest Catch,'" Gavin told ESPN. "Jake noticed [Dowling wearing DVS] and told him he skated and they established a relationship, and it led Jake to us."

Anderson has fished for 15 years, working on boats as a teenager in Alaska while continuing to skate. At age 19, he began skating for local shops around Los Angeles, drawing the eye of bigger companies before destroying his ankle. "I couldn't skate anymore and couldn't pay my bills. [Fishing] was my plan B," he said.

The immediate footwear deal is the only project that DVS currently has lined up with Anderson. To that end, Anderson said he hooked up his fellow Northwestern crewmembers with pairs of his designed shoe. But Anderson will likely be involved in future skate events and, possibly, additional collaborations. "Any relationship we establish is long term," Gavin explained. "This could lead to other things, most definitely."
