Two Peralta films premiere at Sundance

Stacy Peralta has been busy this week at the Sundance Film Festival with the world premiere of his "Bones Brigade" documentary on Saturday and Sunday's premiere of "No Room for Rockstars," a documentary that follows the Vans Warped Tour for two years.

Forever Came Calling and Against Me! performed at Sunday's premiere of "No Room for Rockstars" in Park City. Both acts are featured in the film and will be on the bill for the 2012 Warped Tour this summer. The film, which was directed by Parris Patton and produced by Peralta and Agi Orsi, will get a one-day limited theatrical release March 1, thanks to a partnership with digital distributor Cinedigm, before its April 2 iTunes release and its May 8 DVD release.

"Bones Brigade: An Autobiography" is Peralta's fourth film to premiere at Sundance -- following his skateboarding documentary, "Dogtown & Z-Boyz," his surf film, "Riding Giants," and his portrait of California street gangs, "Made in America" -- and was one of just eight out-of-competition documentaries picked as official selections for this year's festival. The film is expected to get a distribution deal for a theatrical release, following the successes of Peralta's previous documentaries.

"Even though this is my fourth time, it's just as exciting as my first time," Peralta told ESPN in a December interview. "When you get accepted into Sundance knowing that 10,000 other films from all over the world were trying to get into this festival at the same time, and yours got selected, it gives a certain cachet and importance to your film. It gives your film a blessing, in a sense. Instantly, here's all this attention on your little film and it gives you a chance."

Peralta was among the very first pro skaters, skating first for the Zephyr Surf shop's now legendary Z-Boyz team and then for Gordon & Smith, among other sponsors. He also starred in "Freewheelin'," one of the very first skate videos, but he's even better known for the Bones Brigade skateboard team he put together, the Powell Peralta skateboard brand he built with George Powell, and the Bones Brigade videos that helped shape skateboard culture in the 1980s, beginning with "The Bones Brigade Video Show" (1984), "Future Primitive" (1985), and "The Search for Animal Chin" (1987). Dozens of the world's best-known skateboarders were first introduced in Peralta's videos.

Bones Brigade skaters Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, Rodney Mullin, Tommy Guerrero, and Steve Caballero -- all members of the original Powell Peralta team -- were on hand for Saturday's premiere, and also made time for some snowboarding with Peralta over the weekend on the slopes at Park City. Tony Hawk, featured at the center of the film, missed the premiere because he is on tour in Australia.
