Steve ReyesThe Founder of TheraSURF, Jimmy Gamboa, organized 17 kids with special needs to come down and shred during the Malibu Invitaional, here him and friend Skylar Peak share a little stoke.

The 4th Annual Malibu Invitational went off this past weekend with a solid south groundswell, a pulse of hurricane energy, sunny skies, good vibes, unreal surfing, great kids, great parties, great food, and great friends.

For the past three years The Malibu Invitational has been held to help young Lyon Herron fight his battle with Garner's Syndrome. Our efforts have paid off as he's now tumor-free and has returned to his regular handsome, healthy self. Around Malibu we're all so proud of him for hanging tough, he definitely fought the good fight and we love him for it.

Steve ReyesDillon Perillo obosting in the finals to clinch the top spot. He donated his winnings to his friend Jimmy Gamboa and his foundation TheraSURF ... a class act all the way around.

This year Lyon turned the keys to the Malibu Invitational over to his friend Jimmy Gamboa and Jimmy's foundation TheraSURF. TheraSURF, a creation of Gamboa and his wife Kim, seeks to help children with special needs by taking them into the ocean to catch some waves. TheraSURF focuses close attention to the intimate involvement with each kid and their families and close friends so all can share in the healing of the ocean together. There is nothing stronger than family and friends, and to incorporate that with the power of surfing is an unbelievable experience and a sure thing.

All the proceeds this weekend went to TheraSURF, including our Malibu Invitational champion Dillon Perillo, who donated all of his $2,000 winnings. Perillo, who was born and bred within a bike's ride of the legendary pointbreak, went absolutely ballistic on the final day. With four separate 9.5+ rides, including a perfect 10 in his semifinal. The weekend was amazing, and somehow this things to just get better and better every year.
