Spring has never been an East Coaster's favorite season. Spring swells just don't have the same allure as fall nor'easters, hurricane swells, snowy early winter events, or random summer waves. But the Atlantic Seaboard is in a nice little swell pattern right now, with lows traveling across the country, raging through the plains, and firing up quick, mid-period souths for surfers. And as sick as everyone is of thick rubber and gloves with holes, they're on it.
Sunday was one such swell, although even more hollow than most. The sand was set up, the swell was there, the winds were offshore, and the surf just pumped. There are few places in the world where short period windswell can whip up such draining beachbreak tubes. And these five-foot waves will teach you a lesson you'll still be feeling until the next one.
Bryan Elkus Zach Kenny gets the best of another hollow swell event on the East Coast. It's a good pattern we're in. Looks like the middle of the week could produce again. So, get those old, stretched out boots dried out. We could be feeling hollow again pretty soon.
