Ok, East Coast, get ready. This is the first of my running weblog on Hurricane Bill.
Welcome to the BillBlog.

I'm not sure what's bigger on this one, the storm or the hype. But currently weighing in at Category 4 (major) Hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 135 miles per hour, this one might warrant a little excitement.

We'd be happy with something like this.
East Coast ghost of Hurricanes Past.

For days, I've been getting emails from dudes who just can't contain themselves. They're monitoring the storm, checking back for every new advisory, and making plans to be at the optimal spot. There's also a healthy fear of closeouts. These straight-on groundswells that move so far across the ocean have a way of walling up. Not to mention that New England isn't out of the woods in regard to local weather, if not a very small probability of a direct hit.

Thus far, not even the Caribbean is seeing swell. Everyone in Barbados I've spoken with just keeps talking about how glassy its been. But it's coming. Florida should see the precursors by tomorrow morning.

iPhones are so convenient.

The woman in the bottom left said she's not going out until its overhead.

I just went up to the beach and my little part of New Jersey is barely a foot with a light sea breeze.

Just for the sake of argument, I went across the board to see what the different sites are predicting for Long Island on Sunday.

Surfine is calling for 8 —12 foot, Good to Epic.

Magic Seaweed is predicting 9 — 11 foot, with 5 Stars.

SwellInfo has double-overhead plus surf, dropping through the day with their clean to fairly-clean for most of the day.

WaveWatch shows the swell peaking in the afternoon at nearly 14-foot with light north/northwest winds.

But check this out. Whether this is the East Coast swell of the season or the biggest kick in the balls, just admire this satellite shot from NOAA.

Beauty is in the eye of the...well, the storm.

How beautiful is that? Just look at the symmetry and the overwhelming power of this storm.
