Smith's rookie year in 2008 will forever be linked with that of Dane Reynolds, as the two were arguably the most hyped rookies in tour history. Since then, they've taken different paths to the tour's top five, with Reynolds displaying characteristic apathy amdist occasional mind-bending genius that's averaged out to a (current) number four ranking. Smith, meanwhile, has made a methodical rise through the ranks, showing less flash but more competition savvy. His first win coincides with his first time at World Number One.
