Carissa Moore

The $50,000 that Hurley put up for the women's first prize was a unheard of in women's pro surfing -- it's a full $35,000 more than the ladies make when they win an event on their World Tour. Moore, who's only just graduated from high school, showed poise beyond her 17 years while facing Sally Fitzgibbons in the final. With just two four-point rides, she didn't find the score she needed until the dying minutes of the heat. "I was pretty nervous because I only had two 4 point scores," Moore said. "Sally is gnarly and is a great competitor and I knew when that last set came, if I didn't get on it Sally would have gotten the score easily. I'm just so on top of the world right now, I'm so psyched." (Jason Kenworthy)
