Australia's Jessi Miley-Dyer will approach the 2012 World Tour from a fresh angle as she zeroes in on management tactics in place of heat strategy. The ASP announced on Tuesday that the 25-year-old Sydney native will begin immediately as manager to the ASP Women's World Tour.

"We're excited to welcome Jessi to the ASP Management team," ASP International Media Director Dave Prodan said. "She's been a standout surfer and sterling representative of female athletics for the past several years. In addition to her six years amongst the world's best female surfers, Jessi has also served in the dual roles of surfers' representative and ASP Board Member. These attributes will be invaluable as the ASP looks to stabilize and enhance the women's dimension of our sport. Appointing Jessi to this post is the first positive step of what we hope to be many over the next few years."

Miley-Dyer, a former ASP World Junior Champ, finished 15th in the 2011 Title race as a sixth-year Women's World Tour competitor. Last year, the Women's Tour was manned in conjunction with the Men's by World Tour Manager Renato Hickle and International Tour Manager Al Hunt.

Miley-Dyer is stepping up to the helm of what many consider an ailing, inadequate Women's Tour amidst general ASP upheaval: Brodie Carr's resignation, a seemingly ever-revolving World Title schedule, the introduction and revocation of the mid-year shove-off, and half a women's season. JMD remains undaunted and says she's looking forward to working with the Top 17 this season.

"Women's surfing has never looked brighter," she said Thursday. "Because I've been on tour for such a long time, I know exactly what the surfers want, so for me it's all about finding a way to make that happen. Obviously, we are looking for new events, but it's important for me to concentrate on the ones that we have.

"I think what I'm most pumped for is the fact that I've been put in a position where I have the power to change things. In the years past, when I have been the surfer representative, I've been there to give the surfer's voice, but not really been able to change things at events, etc. Now, I can put all that information to work!"

The 2012 ASP Women's World Tour begins at the Roxy Pro Gold Coast on February 27.
