TIGNES, France -- Riding in his fourth competition of the season, 25-year-old Shaun White qualified first in Men's Snowboard SuperPipe Elimination on Wednesday evening at Winter X Games Tignes 2012. White secured his lead on his first of two runs with a score of 89.66.
Nine other riders, including second-place qualifier Louie Vito and Iouri Podladtchikov, advanced to Thursday's finals (1:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2/ESPN3).
This is White's first appearance in Tignes. He arrived Wednesday, coming in to competition with no practice time, and after winning the Burton U.S. Open in Stratton, Vt., on Saturday.
Seven of White's 17 Winter X SuperPipe medals are gold. He has 22 total X event (snowboarding and skateboarding) medals to his name. He made Winter X history by scoring the first perfect 100 score at Winter X Games Aspen in January.
