According to BMX legend, Jay Miron first pulled an undocumented double backflip in Europe in 1996, but Dave Mirra brought the double backflip to the public 4 years later. Mirra became the first to pull the trick in competition in May of 2000 at Mat Hoffman's Crazy Freakin' Biker Series, and a few months later, live from Pier 30 in San Francisco, CA, nearly everyone in attendance knew what to expect. The park course's perfectly transitioned box jump screamed "Double backflip," and Dave Mirra delivered, winning his eleventh X Games gold medal and changing the competitive spectrum of BMX forever. To this day, few BMXers step up to the double flip challenge.Tags: Actionsports, Bmx
