NASCAR fines four Busch crew chiefs

Associated Press

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Four Busch Series crew chiefs were fined for rules violations before last Saturday's NAPA Auto Parts 300 at Daytona International Speedway, NASCAR said Wednesday.

Pat Smith of PPI Motorsports and Nick Short of Bobby Hillin Racing were each fined $15,000 for "actions detrimental to stock car racing" and "use of parts that do not conform to NASCAR rules." Short also violated a rule against "alteration that allows additional air to be picked up."

Dave McCarty of Hank Parker Racing and Gere Kennon of Dale Earnhardt Inc., were fined $5,000 each for using nonconforming parts. NASCAR said McCarty was also penalized for an "attempt to pull air from sources other than normal approved methods," and Kennon also violated a rule on "location of roll bars."
