COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Winston Cup star Jeff Burton is coming to
town to help South Carolina racing fans pull for their favorite
drivers even more than they already do.
Burton will join Gov. Jim Hodges on Tuesday to endorse a NASCAR
vanity license plate for South Carolina drivers.
The bill would need legislative approval. If passed, motorists
could get state license plates honoring NASCAR drivers such as Burton,
Dale Earnhardt, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon, Rusty Wallace and Winston
Cup champion Bobby Labonte. The plates would cost about $60.
Part of the money -- although how much was not immediately clear
-- would go to the Children's Emergency Shelter Foundation, which
has 19 locations throughout South Carolina. Burton's wife, Kim, is
on the foundation's board.
Burton said he met with Hodges about a year ago to start the
idea rolling. | |
