Grissom will race for Petty at Loudon

 Associated Press

LEVEL CROSS, N.C. -- Kyle Petty will skip Sunday's race at the New Hampshire track where his son, Adam, died in a crash May 12.

Petty Enterprises announced Monday that Steve Grissom will drive Petty's car in the Jiffy Lube 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway near Loudon, N.H.

"I believe everyone can understand Kyle's feelings right now and I'm glad I can help out again," Grissom said.

Grissom also substituted for Petty at the Coca-Cola 600 at the Lowe's Motor Speedway outside Charlotte, less than two weeks after Adam Petty's death.

Petty returned to the Winston Cup circuit for the June 4 race at Dover, Del., and has raced in every series event since then.

Grissom is among the leaders in NASCAR's Craftsman Truck Series championship and also will be competing in a truck series event in New Hampshire.

"All I want to do is help out as best I can. The guys and I have talked, and we're going to work hard to make Kyle and (sponsor) Hot Wheels proud of us," Grissom said.

Adam Petty, representing the fourth generation of his family to race stock cars, was killed in a crash at New Hampshire International during practice for a Busch Series race.
