 Associated Press

SONOMA, Calif. -- John Force earned his seventh victory of the season and moved back into the Funny Car points lead Sunday at the FRAM Autolite Nationals.

Force, from Yorba Linda, Calif., earned his 88th career victory when teammate Tony Pedregon fouled at the start in the all-Team Castrol Ford Mustang final round at Sears Point Raceway.

Force, who last won at Sears Point in 1994, moved 75 points ahead of Jerry Toliver in the Winston standings with the victory.

Doug Kalitta and Kurt Johnson also were winners in their respective categories at the $1.8 million race, the 15th of 23 events in the $45 million NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.

Kalitta, from Ypsilanti, Mich., won for the third straight year at this event in Top Fuel, defeating Larry Dixon. It was Kalitta's fourth career victory, as he covered the quarter-mile distance in 5.247 seconds at a top speed of 274.33 mph.

Johnson, from Lawrenceville, Ga., earned his second Pro Stock win of the season and the 17th of his career, defeating Allen Johnson in the final. Johnson posted a time of 6.974 seconds at 198.61 mph.
