The Other Sider: Ole Miss Rebels

6/21/2012

To help breakdown the teams on Texas' 2012 schedule, HornsNation will be conducting Q&As with the opposing team's beat writers to get a more in-depth look at that opponent.

To get more information on the Rebels, Carter Strickland talked with Hugh Kellenberger, Ole Miss beat writer for The Clarion-Ledger in Jackson, Miss.

Carter Strickland: Texas fans are going to be very interested in one-time Longhorns recruit Bo Wallace and what he brings to the table. What did you see from him in the spring and what do you think he does for this offense?

Hugh Kellenberger: A lot of Ole Miss fans expected Bo Wallace to come in during the spring and immediately claim the job. He didn't. He got better as the 15 practices went on and had a very nice Grove Bowl (16 of 26 passing, 240 yards, two touchdowns), but he'll enter August in a competition with Barry Brunetti. Brunetti is a former West Virginia transfer who started the first and last games of the season for Ole Miss last season. He's a dual-threat guy that flourished running the read-option portions of the new Ole Miss offense. Wallace can move, but he's more comfortable in the pocket and making throws downfield. At this point, I expect to see both the first few weeks of the season.
