- Antawn Jamison says the Cavaliers had chemistry issues, and that he was shocked by LeBron James' decision to leave, but understands well his desire to play with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. (Via Cavs: The Blog)
- Just telling you right now that I'll be part of the crew chatting in Daily Dime Live during the U.S. vs. Russia game which starts at 11 A.M. ET today.
- Jay Aych of the Painted Area, summing up Ricky Rubio's World Championships: "Ricky Rubio made a few creative dishes but failed to have a major impact on this game. Ricky's Worlds were a mixed bag, in which he flashed his brilliant passing skills but also showed his lack of scoring ability. It's not just his subpar shooting that needs tweaking, he needs to work on his finishing. In seven games, Rubio averaged five points per game, 5.7 assists per game, 1.9 turnovers, 3.3 rebounds & 27.5% shooting (2-for-15 on 3s) in 27 minutes per game."
- Is it a good thing, or a bad thing, when people discussing NBA video games talk more Xs and Os then people discussing the actual NBA?
- Jeff Skibiski of Forum Blue and Gold assesses the top storylines for the Lakers' upcoming season. He ignores the oddity of being defending champs, who had a great offseason, but still enter the season in many peoples' minds as underdogs to the Miami Heat. I have a feeling that storyline will dominate. He does point out the ongoing Phil Jackson drama: "It’s Phil’s last season. Again. There has been a lot of talk this offseason about motivation for this year’s team and near or at the top of that list has to be the quest to send Coach Jackson off into the sunset with a mindboggling fourth three-peat. For a man who practices Zen, winning a title this season would certainly represent a great deal of symmetry in what has been an amazing career. Then, there is the other camp who believes that Jackson wouldn’t turn down another chance to coach a potential four-peat team, especially considering there’s a decent chance the following season would be condensed due to a lockout."
- Frame-by-frame analysis of the 3, and the turnover, that knocked Spain out of the World Championships.
- If John Starks hadn't bumped into a CBA referee, he likely would have joined the NBA as a Piston, not a Knick.
- Jesse Blanchard of the Spurs blog 48 Minutes of Hell, on Luis Scola, whose rights the Spurs once held: "I watched and TiVo’d yesterday’s Brazil vs. Argentina game looking to write another Tiago Splitter post for those who might not have had the opportunity to watch it. Shortly after the game I deleted the program with almost nothing of note on Splitter, mostly because Luis Scola was too depressingly dominant to pay attention to anything else."
- Kendrick Perkins says he's off crutches, and that rehab is not as bad as everybody thinks.
- Ball in Europe has translated some words from the Lithuanian team's fight song: "You may die of despair or happiness/Even if you only play chess or darts/After all, that’s how it is sometimes/This leaves one without a friend." Who's ready to get crazy?
- Here's a reason to play in international tournaments: For a player like Linas Kleiza, it's a chance to show your new N.B.A.coach in Toronto, the U.S. assistant Jay Triano, that your offense has far more facets than you could show in Denver.
- Quiz: Name the NBA personality who said this: "We were on food stamps for a long time, welfare. My dad worked the graveyard shift at 7-Eleven and my mom worked in a library and took an hour-long bus ride into work every day. Coming from a humble background made me not only hungry to succeed, but I also wanted to make my parents proud." Answer.
- LeBron James has a cute new signature. Honestly, I don't use the word "cute" very often, and seldom as a compliment. Just seems like something he worked on a little too much. The whole idea of an autograph is to have something genuine from an individual, as opposed to mass-produced from a factory. This may be from an individual, but in its planning and practice, it feels manufactured. Also, I can tell you now that when he misses some big jumper in the playoffs, fair or not, somebody is going to suggest he should have spent a little more time working on his shooting and a little less time on his signing.
- Should the D-League season start months earlier?
