Pouring in College Park

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- It is absolutely pouring here now, and there is a tornado watch. There are strong gusts of winds blowing the rain sideways. It's less than an hour before the game and Byrd Stadium is emptier than it is for the Red-White spring game. Anyone who is here is tucked under the overhang. This is going to be a dirty, sloppy football game. Can't wait.
Maryland coach Ralph Friedgen had his team practice with wet footballs just in case. He did the same thing in preparation for NC State, which was also a rainy mess.
I was wandering around down on the field and the sense of urgency seems to be lacking. Maybe it's because of the weather, or the lack of tailgating scene here, but there just isn't the kind of buzz I noticed on Thursday at Miami.
It's anyone's guess which Maryland team will show up today, but it's unlikely the Terps' defense will allow such an embarrassing performance again. That said, the revamped defensive line will need some help from their linebackers to stop Shaun Draughn and Ryan Houston.
