Virginia don new uniforms, quarterback

Virginia will debut its new Nike uniforms that it will wear during the 2010 season this afternoon at the McCue Center on campus.

Several Cavalier players will model the new uniforms that will feature multiple color combinations. The uniforms are part of Nike's Pro Combat series, which was worn by teams such as Florida, TCU and Missouri last season.

The public is welcome to attend the event. It will include members of the marching band and spirit squads. The unveiling will be a precursor to the Cavaliers' spring game on Saturday.

The biggest question heading into Saturday’s spring game will be about the quarterbacking situation. The Cavaliers have three quarterbacks on campus this spring: senior Marc Verica, redshirt freshman Ross Metheny, and early-enrolled freshman Michael Strauss. Verica is the only player of the bunch that has attempted a pass in a collegiate game and he’s the favorite to win the starting role.

But first-year head coach Mike London has been non-committal about naming a quarterback after spring football concludes and he’ll probably wait until the fall when true freshmen Miles Gooch, Mike Rocco and Jake McGee arrive on campus. Not all of them are expected to stay quarterback, but it will make the competition interesting come August.
