Last week we took a look at the cross-divisional schedules for the Atlantic Division's top teams heading into this fall, and Boston College had the path of least resistance to Charlotte. If the Eagles could take advantage of that, who would they meet based on the crossover schedules in the Coastal Division?
Here's a look at who the Coastal contenders face from the Atlantic side:
Georgia Tech -- NC State, at Wake Forest, at Clemson
Miami -- at Clemson, Florida State, Maryland
North Carolina -- Clemson, at Florida State, NC State
Virginia Tech -- at Boston College, at NC State, Wake Forest
Any four of these teams can win the ACC this year. Really, go ahead and pick one. Your guess is as good as mine. (My guess these days is Miami in an upset over Virginia Tech on Nov. 20). But based on the above lineups, Virginia Tech has yet another reason to believe it can be ACC champs -- again. The Hokies are the only team that escapes Clemson, whereas Miami and UNC have to play the Tigers AND front-runner Florida State.
Could we see a third Boston College/Virginia Tech matchup in this year's ACC title game? Say it ain't so. Those programs met in 2007 and 2008 with the Hokies winning both titles in front of lackluster crowds. The conference got a new championship game city. Now it needs a new matchup.
