Sean Glennon wants to be the main man under center for the Hokies.

He said it in Blacksburg after the spring game, and he said it again last weekend at the ACC football kickoff:

Sean Glennon wants to be Virginia Tech's quarterback. The only quarterback.

Can you blame him?

Tyrod Taylor was originally used last season because the Hokies weren't getting great pass protection, and Taylor brought more mobility and a running dimension to the offense.

Glennon and Taylor switched 20 times during last year's win against Virginia. Try getting into a rhythm on that schedule, or building a chemistry with an almost entirely new offense. Glennon said he improved his accuracy and timing since last season, but that can be disrupted by being yanked out intermittently.

Frank Beamer knows the pitfalls of a two-quarterback system. It didn't work with Marcus Vick and Bryan Randall. The reason it worked with Glennon and Taylor was because both players agreed to it, and because they were given margin for error without fear of being benched for their mistakes.

But if Glennon's heart -- or Tyrod's for that matter -- isn't in it, will it still work?

"We only went four games or so last year -- we didn't experience a whole season -- so that will be interesting to see if that plays out," Glennon said. "Is it working? If we're winning, yeah, but what do we do if we start losing a couple of games? A lot remains to be seen. Right now I'm just focused on being the best quarterback I can be. Hopefully I'm the full-time guy but if not, I'll accept the role like I did last year."

It worked well enough during the last four games of 2007 to win the ACC championship. Given the uncertainties on offense, Glennon might not have much of a choice but to do it again.
