It wasn't pretty last year.
Virginia lost to William & Mary. Duke lost to Richmond. Maryland almost lost to James Madison and Florida State let Jacksonville State get uncomfortably close.
Are there any FCS threats looming on the schedule this year?
Ben in Thaxton, Va., wants to know:
Heather, what is your predictions on the ACC vs FCS schools this year? Remember last year Duke lost to Richmond and UVA lost to Wm & Mary. The ACC plays 11 FCS schools this year and I can see the ACC losing two this year also...Here are my prediction: Richmond over UVA and Elon over Duke.Closer then expicted: Maryland vs Morgan St, UVA vs VMI. Should win by three TD or better BC vs Weber ST, Clemson vs Presyterian, FSU vs Samford, Ga Tech vs SC St, UNC vs Wm
These are great predictions, Ben, but I'm going to give the ACC more credit than that this year. The seniors on Virginia's roster have never won their home opener. Things are different under first-year coach Mike London, and I bet he gets it done against his former school in a too-close-for-comfort game. Same can be said for the game against VMI, which was 2-9 last year.
Elon was 9-3 last season, so that's not a game Duke can take lightly. I know Wake Forest prepared for those guys last year like they were the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Deacs beat Elon 35-7. David Cutcliffe can handle Elon.
If the ACC wants respect, it must go 11-0 against the little guys, and my prediction is it will.
