Here's a look at what's going on around the league today ...

If anyone knows how hard Wisconsin strong safety Jay Valai can hit, it's Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder. The two were friends and high school teammates. Ponder is likely to be reminded of his old friend's aggressive style when the two teams meet in the Champs Sports Bowl.

The last time NC State played at Legion Field, the Wolfpack defeated a Southern Miss quarterback named Brett Favre. The players on NC State's 1990 team haven't forgotten that.

With Justin Tuggle waiting in the wings to be the next Boston College quarterback, current starter Dominique Davis knows the Music City Bowl will be the first step towards keeping his job. He's ready, though, for a little competition.

Virginia will have the only pure spread offense in the ACC, a philosophy new offensive coordinator Gregg Brandon installed at Bowling Green with Urban Meyer.

Jacory Harris is ready to take over Miami's offense while suspended starter Robert Marve ponders his future.

After losing four of its past five bowl games, Virginia Tech has changed the way it approaches bowl games.

Clemson's win over Nebraska for the 1991 national title put the Tigers on the map.
