Introducing 'the Eliminator'

This season, the EliminatorInsider will track the contenders for the ACC championship race, starting this week with a look at the statistical benchmarks that have been required of each past ACC champ.

ESPN.com ran the stats of every Division I team, looking specifically at the national and conference champions of the past several years, to find out what statistical categories correlate to college football success.

By mid-season, the Eliminator will have weekly updates to show how the conference leaders are doing compared to the model.

According to the Eliminator, this year's ACC champ will need to score 21.6 or more points per game. They key in the ACC, though, has been the kicking game:
Not only do ACC champs make more field goals than those of other conferences, but they connect on their attempts at a better clip.

The Eliminator has a few more ACC benchmarks worth keeping an eye on this fall.
