Change has already been made under first-year Virginia coach Mike London, as the Cavaliers beat Richmond 34-13 to end the program's four-year losing streak in home openers.
Much of that can be attributed to the standout performance of Keith Payne, who ran for four touchdowns -- an impressive feat considering Payne had walked away from football until former coach Al Groh was fired and London was hired. It seemed like everything clicked for Virginia's offense, as quarterback Marc Verica wasn't haunted by his interceptions of 2008 as he threw for 283 yards and a touchdown.
This is exactly the way the season needed to start for London -- with a boost of confidence for a program in dire need of a new direction. Not only did Virginia's program get a boost, but so did the ACC, as the Cavaliers avoided a loss to an FCS school for a second straight season.
