Virginia Tech's Beamer confident in quarterback depth

Virginia Tech coach Frank Beamer conceded his staff missed out on a couple of quarterback prospects in this recruiting class, but said there are plenty of athletes already in the program -- including two who were just added -- who could play the position.
Two of Virginia Tech's most recent signees -- Logan Thomas and Antone Exum -- are possible options at quarterback, but Beamer said in a teleconference on Wednesday that he'd like Thomas to start his career at wide receiver, and plans to move him around a lot. Beamer also said tight end Greg Boone will get some snaps at quarterback this spring.
Tyrod Taylor is obviously the starter in 2009, but if he should get hurt, there is little to no experience behind him. Sean Glennon has graduated, Austin Decker and Jeff Beyer were both walk-ons, and Boone threw one pass last season.
"I think our quarterback situation, I think we've got some excellent athletes here in our program that have the ability to play quarterback, and two of them would be Exum and another one is Logan Thomas," Beamer said. "They have the possibility, but you put (Joseph) Ju-Ju Clayton in there, Marcus Davis, and we're going to work Greg Boone some at quarterback here this spring, so I think our quarterback situation will be OK."
