Former Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry is the gift that keeps on giving -- not only to the sport, but also to the people around him.

Curry, who won the Butkus Award and helped transcend Wake Forest's program, is already making a difference at the next level, too. On Monday, Curry was at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn., where he met 12-year-old Bryson Merriweather, whose leukemia is now in remission. Curry invited Merriweather to go to New York with him for the NFL draft.

Having met Curry, this doesn't come as much of a surprise, though it is refreshing, especially at a time when lucrative NFL contracts have the potential to change so many of the college athletes we got to know at this level. Clearly Curry is humble enough to remember where he came from, and generous enough to help others like Merriweather.
