This just in from Clemson's sports information department:
Former Clemson standout defensive linemen Chester McGlockton and William Devane both received induction honors into Halls of Fame in their local communities in North Carolina over the weekend. McGlockton was inducted on Sunday into the Greater Wilmington Hall of Fame in Wilmington, NC and Devane was inducted Saturday into the Jacksonville-Onslow Sports Commission Hall of Fame in Jacksonville, NC.
McGlockton starred for the Tigers from 1989-91 as a defensive tackle. He led the ACC in sacks as a freshman in 1989 and helped the Tigers to a top 10 ranking in 1990 and the ACC Championship in 1991. He was first-team All-ACC in 1991, helping the Tigers to a number-one ranking in rushing defense. He had 20.5 sacks in his three years with the Tigers, still eighth in Clemson history. McGlockton was a first round draft choice of the Oakland Raiders and was named to four Pro Bowls.
Devane was a three-year starter on the Clemson defensive line from 1981-83 and the Tigers had a 30-2-2 record in those three years. That includes the 1981 National Championship season. The 1984 Clemson graduate teamed with William Perry to give Clemson one of the top defensive middle guard positions in the nation during that time. He was a 12th round draft choice of the Miami Dolphins. He is now an assistant principal and football coach at Hart County High School in Hartwell, GA. He has an overall record of 64-28-1 as a head coach.
