Ralph Friedgen's drastic weight loss prompted Jeremy Fowler of the Orlando Sentinel to make a list of the five fittest college football coaches in the country, and Miami's Randy Shannon made the cut.

No doubt he picked the right ACC coach.

If there's one conference coach I wouldn't challenge to any sort of athletic test, it would be Shannon. He is easily the most in-shape of the conference coaches, though Clemson's Dabo Swinney is definitely the No. 2 athlete on the roster.

Let's grade these "players" in terms you understand, though:

Miami coach Randy Shannon would make the top recruit of all the ACC coaches.
Randy Shannon: Four stars. A top recruit who can contribute immediately. Should help the Canes where they need it the most -- in the secondary.

Dabo Swinney: Three and a half stars. He's got good vision, but he's also got that "potential tag," as teammate Tom O'Brien calls it. Potential meaning you haven't done anything yet.

Butch Davis: Three stars. He's an imposing player who commands respect from his opponents, but because of a knee injury, his durability is in question.

Tom O'Brien: Three stars. Coaches love him because he's disciplined and knows how to practice. As long as he can stay healthy, he can contribute.

Frank Spaziani: Three stars. He's a throwback player who could help the team more if he'd concentrate on defensive end instead of trying to be the quarterback the team so desperately needs.

Al Groh: Two and a half stars. He brings speed off the edge, but often tries to do too much by himself and misses time in the spring because of lacrosse responsibilities.

Paul Johnson: Two stars. This athlete actually fares better on the basketball court, but if he could just get some help up front on the gridiron, he'd flourish as a B-back.

David Cutcliffe: Two stars. He's a smart player with good football IQ, but spends too much time watching film and not enough time with the strength coach.

Frank Beamer: Two stars. He's a hard hitting cornerback for his size, but sometimes tries to do too much in an effort to help the offense.

Jim Grobe: Two stars. He wasn't highly recruited, but after redshirting a year should develop into a dependable defender.

Ralph Friedgen: Two-stars. He's a space eater who is good up front and will help the Terps where they need it -- on the offensive line -- but he needs to be quicker with the feet.

Bobby Bowden: One star. Odds are his backup, Jimbo Fisher, will challenge him for the starting job sooner than later.
