Virginia Tech couldn't do it.
The Hokies had a chance to help the ACC earn its first winning record during bowl season since 2005, and they let that chance get yanked out from underneath them in the second half against Stanford.
Now it's up to Boston College. A win over Nevada in the Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl would give the ACC a 5-4 record in its bowls this year, but it's an accomplishment that would do little to change the perception of the ACC nationally. Even if BC wins, the league's best win would be over SEC East champ South Carolina, and while that carries some weight, it was a different game without standout running back Marcus Lattimore. Then again, it says a lot about the Noles that they were able to beat the No. 2 team in the SEC with their backup quarterback.
Still, the biggest opportunity for the ACC to make a statement nationally has passed, but the conference could at least take some solace in a winning bowl record, and it's now up to Boston College to get it.
