Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich has finished his first cycle of chemo and will continue that treatment, according to my colleague Ivan Maisel, who spoke recently with coach Frank Spaziani.
Herzlich will be evaluated again late this summer so doctors can see what size the tumor is and how they might remove it. It's highly unlikely he will play this fall. The bigger question is whether he will be able to play, period.
The doctors don't know what damage the leg will sustain in order to excise the tumor.
"It's not pie in the sky," Spaziani told Maisel. "He could come back. We've just got to wait. One step at a time."
