WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- First class.
There's no other way to describe the seven-floor Deacon Tower, which is probably why all 22 suites and the entire club level sold out in 90 days.
The well-to-do members of the Moricle Society, who pay $60,000 a year to belong, will be visited by coach Jim Grobe about an hour before game time, and behind the fancy woodwork there are two dry-erase boards for him to share a little of his X's and O's.
There are flat-screen TVs everywhere you look in this place, and the restaurant on the club level offers crab cakes and wine instead of hot dogs and Cokes.
Not that I've been in lots of visiting coaches' booths, but I'm guessing you'd be hard-pressed to find one with as much space -- and a refrigerator.
It's closer to a pro venue than any other college tower I can think of, but without losing the charm of the smallest school in the BCS.
The scrimmage is going on right now and Josh Bush just had a nice interception. I asked Grobe if his defense was going to score 10 touchdowns again this season.
"Probably not," he said with a smile.
I'll have more later on his take on this year's team, but the improvement going on at BB&T Field is one of the reasons Grobe decided to stick around.
Check back later for more on that. It's time to watch some football.
