The Hokies were slated to play former Big East partner Syracuse in 2010 and 2011, but Syracuse backed out of the deal, according to several reports

"With respect to Virginia Tech, we have mutually agreed not to play our series in 2010 and 2011 so that each of us may pursue other opportunities that are in the best interests of our respective programs at this time," Syracuse senior associate athletic director Rob Edson told Syracuse.com

It looks like the Hokies will fill this void next year with Boise State on Oct. 2 at FedEx Field, but I'm not sure the deal has been inked yet, and I'm still trying to confirm that with both schools and the field. Even though it's not a home game for the Hokies, it's certainly much closer to it than it is for Boise, and the Hokies should come in full force. Syracuse is scheduled to play Boston College in 2010, so this is a good change, and it will be a solid nonconference matchup. There are only five seniors on this year's Boise State team, so they should be an experienced, cohesive group next year.
