Maryland LT Justin Gilbert reinjures knee

Maryland left tackle Justin Gilbert, who injured his knee last year and had ACL surgery last Thursday, reinjured his knee during a noncontact drill and will likely be out until October, coach Randy Edsall said on a teleconference this afternoon.

"That's something I feel bad about, bad for Justin, because he was really chomping at the bit to get back out there," Edsall said. "It wasn't even a situation where he had any contact."

Sophomore Max Garcia was listed as Gilbert's backup on the spring depth chart.

"Max is the No. 1 guy at left tackle," Edsall said. "I like Max. I like the ability Max brings to that position. We've got to get him better technically. He's got to keep working, but he's got the feet. He's got the mental toughness I'm looking for. He's got the attitude I'm looking for out there. He's just a younger who has to keep improving, but once he starts to really master the technique, he's got a really bright future there."

Edsall also said receiver Ronnie Tyler is out with a sprained ankle.
