Camped out in Tally

6/22/2011

Corey Long of ESPN Recruiting has been gathering news and notes from Jimbo Fisher's camp in Tallahassee for the past three days, scouting the prospects and providing updates on the Noles' commitment list. Here's a look back at the highlights (click on each day for the full report):

DAY 1

  • The Seminoles started strong with three commitments on Sunday -- tight end Christo Kourtzidis (Orange, Calif./Lutheran), kicking specialist Cason Beatty (Charlotte, N.C./Olympic) and defensive tackle James Hamilton (Orlando/Olympia).

  • Wide receiver Richard Benjamin had said that if FSU offered him, his recruitment would be over. But after the Seminoles offered, Benjamin actually said Miami was his early leader.

DAY 2

  • Defensive lineman Leonard Williams told Long he doesn't have a top five yet, but he is "mostly considering Florida State, Florida, Auburn and Alabama." USC is next on his tour.

DAY 3

  • ESPNU 150 running back Barry Sanders Jr. attended the Monday afternoon session but didn't participate. It was his second unofficial visit to the campus, but he has also been to Auburn and could check out Stanford, too.

  • Class of 2013 quarterback Brice Ramsey received an offer from the Noles on Tuesday. "I like FSU," Ramsey told Long. "They are on top of the ACC most of the time. I remember watching them when I was younger and Coach [Mark] Richt was here. They are getting back to that place again." Ramsey has also received offers from Clemson, Georgia and Florida.

Finally, Florida State made an early move on its 2013 class when it received a pledge from cornerback Sojourn Shelton. Here's an excerpt:

"I live in south Florida and down there many kids dream of playing for Miami or FSU," Shelton told ESPN Recruiting's Jamie Newberg. "My family is divided between the two schools, but I have always been an FSU fan. So I have the opportunity to go to school there and play football and I took it."
