I don't want you guys getting so wrapped up in the hype of getting to College Gameday you get stuck in the traffic.

So, don't say I didn't warn you ...

This just came in from the folks at the Chick-fil-A College Kickoff:

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is advising of a major Interstate reconstruction project where I-85 south meets I-75 south on Labor Day Weekend and will result in heavy delays in Midtown and downtown Atlanta. Fans planning to attend the 2008 Chick-fil-A College Kickoff between Alabama and Clemson, as well as all of the pregame festivities on Aug. 30th will be greatly affected and are advised to exercise alternative transportation plans.

Beginning at 9 p.m., Friday:

  • I-85 southbound will be reduced to two lanes near its merge with I-75
  • I-75 southbound will be reduced to one lane at this merge.

This work will continue until 5 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 2. Extremely heavy congestion is anticipated on both I-85 and I-75 SB north of and through downtown Atlanta.

Here's a tip -- take MARTA downtown. It will drop you off right outside the Georgia Dome.

If you just have to drive, try I-285 around the perimeter. You can call 511 for free traffic updates.

Enjoy Centennial Park.
