After an embarrasing start to the 2009 season, the ACC got exactly what it needed from Florida State and Miami -- an encore performance from two marquee programs that came down to the very last play of the game.
It was an instant classic -- as so many games in this storied rivalry so often are -- complete with a missed extra point and an official review on the final play in the end zone which would have won the game for Florida State. There were dueling quarterbacks, electric punt and kickoff returns, speed, athleticism and, finally, offense. Miami first-year offensive coordinator Mark Whipple and FSU head-coach-in-waiting Jimbo Fisher played a chess match all night long, and Miami's defense got the final word on FSU's last possession. It was the kind of game where you knew you couldn't get up from your seat because you were bound to miss something.
Florida State and Miami might not be where they want to on the national stage just yet, but they were the two teams in the conference that made the most of the national spotlight in Week 1.
