Virginia is going to have its hands full at Southern Miss this weekend, and it's going to take a lot for the Cavaliers to suddenly find their offense and reverse their losing trend in road openers. Check out these numbers:
- UVA is 2-6 in road openers under coach Al Groh.
- Virginia last won its first road game in 2005 at Syracuse, a narrow 27-24 win.
- The Cavaliers were 1-4 on the road in 2008.
- Virginia is 3-8 in nonconference, regular-season road games since 2001.
Among other things, Groh is concerned about the weather (seriously). It's supposed to be in the high 80s and sticky humid in Hattiesburg, Miss., which is already a tough place to play. Virginia is taking its first trip to the state of Mississippi and "The Rock" in a very upbeat manner, despite its 0-2 start.
"We have fun going on the road," Groh said. "Wherever we go it's going to be loud, it's going to be challenging, but it's going to be fun. It's just a business trip. Lots of people go on the road to do business. ... We don't see it as anything out of the ordinary to what lots of people do."
