First of all, have a good weekend. Hopefully you enjoyed the first week of ESPN.com's new blogging efforts. A week from tomorrow, I'll be headed to Georgia for the ACC football kickoff, and that's when football season finally starts to feel like it's close. This year it's at Reynolds Plantation, not far from where Frank Beamer and Ralph Friedgen have their lakehouses. I believe Ralph was there this week, and rest easy, Maryland fans, because Ralph's time there is often spent gameplanning.
Here are a few last tidbits for today, but check back again Monday for another week of ACC football:
- Sad news out of Durham, as Mike Souchak, a member of the Duke Sports Hall of Fame, passed away on Thursday in Belleair, Fla. He was 81. Souchak came to Duke on a football scholarship, but went on to an outstanding career on the PGA tour. He was inducted into the Duke Sports Hall of Fame in 1976 and the Carolinas Golf Hall of Fame in 1984.
A native of Berwick, Pa., Souchak lettered three seasons (1948-50) under coach Wallace Wade. In 1950, he caught 27 passes for 426 yards and two touchdowns while kicking 26-of-29 extra points as the Blue Devils defeated South Carolina, Pittsburgh, N.C. State and North Carolina en route to a 7-3 campaign.
- Here's a good feature I missed in this morning's ACC papers on FSU receiver Correy Surrency in the Tallahassee Democrat. Jimbo Fisher is excited about this guy, and FSU fans should be, too.
That's all I've got for today. See you Monday.
