It's official. This matchup has been mentioned before as a strong possibility, but ESPN and Chick-fil-A Bowl officials today announced that UNC and LSU will meet in the 2010 Chick-fil-A Kickoff.
This should be a good game, but it doesn't seem like it will create the same kind of buzz as the past two matchups. A lot of that probably has to do with the fact we don't know exactly how good North Carolina is yet. There isn't the national title talk that has surrounded both Clemson and Virginia Tech in the past two openers, and the Tar Heels first have to win the ACC Coastal Division. Of course, the usual storyline exists in that it will be a chance for the ACC to beat the SEC with everyone watching.
As for the series history, LSU and North Carolina have met six times, but haven't played since 1986. The Tigers lead the series, 5-1.
