Duke adds pair of DBs, off to solid '13 start

April, 6, 2012
Don't look now, but Duke has been off to a pretty solid start for the 2013 recruiting cycle.

The Blue Devils received a pair of commitments from defensive backs this week in Jake Kite and DeQuavais Mann, bringing their class total to five.

Kite (Roanoke, Va./Hidden Valley), a safety, chose Duke over NC State and Ohio Insider. His father, Chris, played for Virginia.

Duke beat out Virginia Tech and Vanderbilt Insider for Mann (Rocky Mount, N.C./Northern Nash), a cornerback.

This has to be an encouraging start for a Blue Devils program that finished last in the ACC in recruiting for the 2012 class, as it now stacks up favorably, at least numbers-wise, with its conference brethren in the early stages of the 2013 cycle.

The commitment breakdown for ACC schools:

Florida State: 8
North Carolina: 7
Duke: 5
Miami: 5
Clemson: 5
Virginia Tech: 4
Virginia: 2
Georgia Tech: 1
Maryland: 1
Boston College: 1
North Carolina State: 0
Wake Forest: 0

Miami, meanwhile, added a big piece this week in ESPNU 150 Watch List tight end Standish Dobard (New Orleans/Edna Karr).
