Georgia Tech dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25 poll this week, and Miami moved up to No. 9. Wow. First of all, the Jackets didn't look like a Top-25 team last week, so fair enough. They're out. But for Miami to go from No. 20 to No. 9 is a little too quick of a promotion. The Canes need to beat Virginia Tech on the road this weekend to earn a top-10 ranking, and it seems like the coaches would agree. Miami is No. 13 in the USA Today poll; Virginia Tech is No. 12.

Having watched both Miami and Virginia Tech last week, the Canes looked more impressive and should be ahead of the Hokies in the rankings. Miami beat two Top-25 ACC opponents, including rival FSU on the road. And FSU beat then-ranked No. 7 BYU, which makes it even more impressive. The Hokies, however, escaped with a win against a young Nebraska team that hasn't defeated a top-20 opponent since 2001. And who did Marshall beat? Exactly.

Each week the bloggers submit their own Top 25 Power Ranking for ESPN.com. The Canes are No. 8. Here's how I voted this week:

TOP 25
  • No. 12 Miami (last week No. 21)
  • No. 13 Virginia Tech (last week No. 14)
  • No. 19 FSU (NR)
  • No. 21 UNC (last week No. 24)

Miami is good enough to be a top-10 team, and if it beats Virginia Tech this weekend, I'll make sure the Canes are in my Top 10 next week.
